Summary: Varian (William Hurt) is in America when he see's what is happening to the Jews in France under the German occupation. He resolves to do something about it and persuades fellow Americans to back him financially. He travels to Marseilles and helps get some 2,000 Jews escape, before being arrested and deported himself.
