Summary: Pavithran Nair aka Pavi (Mohanlal), a struggling road contractor & the black sheep of his family, is dwarfed by the success of his corrupt contractor brother & engineer brother-in-law. The new Municipal Commissioner turns out to be his ex-flame Radha (Shobana), from whom he had bitterly split in college. Pavi's small time duperies in the road work doesn't bode well with Radha, who forbids Pavi from any future work. Enraged, Pavi gets Radha framed for corruption. An abased Radha attempts suicide.
