OK, the story makes no sense and there's no continuity. So what? This is an amazing film, very beautyful and dreamlike.

A cheesy B picture aspiring to high art, and on some odd level it succeeds. It is a bit tacky, full of bad zooms, dramatic slow motion, and awful dubbing. But it's also intriguingly hallucinatory and erotic.

Venus in Furs

Basically softcore porn for the psychedelic set. The film does excel in creating a dreamlike atmosphere, with its off-kilter imagery, unhinged plot and groovy jazz score. Unfortunately, the mood is frequently punctured by atrocious pseudo-beatnik monologues and very bad acting and/or dubbing. The sexual themes are confused. I wouldn't really want the film to be more coherent, but it could use more depth or maybe just more talent. Enjoyable just for being something different but too sloppy/silly.

Excellent location photography all around Turkey and Brazil, and a bunch of old school camera effects and clever shots involving mirrors. It's got a cool jazz score by Manfred Mann, and doesn't suffer from any of the boring stretches common for Franco movies (even though it all doesn't make a ton of sense). Probably Jess Franco's best film, it's the only one of his I've seen that goes for genuine eroticism rather than exploitation.

Boring...

inconceivably bad, it's written terribly, acted horrendously, and essentially plays like a soft-soft-core porn movie. at times the music would make you think it's horror, but it sadly has no elements of that, except the god awful trumpet playing. at times the camerawork is innovative and appealing. this movies main merit comes from the nudity, but even an entire hour and a half of nudity wouldn't make up for this piece of crap.
