The first half is mediocre. It has some good scenes but a lot of failed comedy and it drags. The second half makes up for it, though, with three fantastic nights of scary moments with the undead in a church. If the whole film had the intensity of those scenes it would have been fantastic.

This ancient Russian horror flick is a sweet classic. There is a witch, riding and flying on man, protecting circle and other special effects. After being awake three nights in row, no wonder demons awakes! "Viy" is an Ukranian word (not Russian!) and it means "eyelid". The protecting circle prevents witch to see the priest. The monster in the end has so heavy eyelids that he needs help to raise them up.

Runs mostly like a minor Hammer Horror flick with cossack trappings, until a mouthwateringly awesome ending. Luckily it's short enough, that the wait for the good stuff never becomes too annoying.

Corman and Poe goes Russia in this tale of a drunken monk battling it out with the forces of evil in a three rounder. Slow paced over all but the final night is worth waiting for. Here 'Evil Dead' is taken to school when it comes depicting eeriness with a minimal budget.
