felt so sorry for Madonna; this movie is much better than most Oscar considerations this year, I just wish the editing was a bit organized... The flashbacks distract at times but cinematography, stroy telling, costumes, make up, set design and especially the soundtrack are beautiful

Fuck Madonna. This movie is pompous and stupid. Fuck your stupid period-montage-set-to-a-contemporary-song. Everything about this movie is simplistic and dopey.

Odd historical drama intermixed with a seemingly irrelevant modern story is nevertheless an intriguing and interesting take on material touched on in the more successful THE KING'S SPEECH. Murky and muddled storytelling for the historical segments means the viewer needs a grip on the events being depicted beforehand; the modern story is told far more clearly, but doesn't hold half the interest of the Wallis-Edward scenes. An interesting if not entirely successful directorial effort from Madonna.

Impeccable work from all Art Departments (Hair and Make-up, Costumes, Props, Art Direction, Lighting, Cinematography) make this a sensory feast. Put that together with a delicious performance by Andrea Riseborough as Wallis Simpson, and a fine supporting performance by Oscar Isaac, and you have a movie worthy of a watch... Give it a shot. I certainly felt I got more than I expected...

Madonna's tackling of Wallis Simpson--contrasting her life with a devotee of hers in 90s Manhattan--fails not for lack of ambition, but for lack of control. The script is a heavy-handed mess, especially in the modern-day sequences; Abbie Cornish and Oscar Isaac do what little they can, although Andrea Riseborough makes a strong Wallis, matched by James D'Arcy's Edward. Some intriguingly bizarre touches of directing, and the Oscar-nominated costumes are fantastic, but it's all pretty hopeless.

Actually the score and soundtrack was okay. I also liked partly the work of cinematography, but the story did not strike me anyhow. There was some highlights during directing (for example the auction scene was well achieved), but still long way to go, Madonna. The non linear storytelling was challenge and a brave move. Points for that too.

Do I get why this movie was a bust at the box office? Yes. But, I do not believe it is a bad movie. The script is a little unusual, and especially the beginning is a little hard to follow. The role of Cornish made up a lot though. 51/100.
