It sometimes goes too far in stating the obvious, but it was an exciting and well-acted film overall. I've never really seen John Wayne quite like this before, and it was a real treat to watch him play such a dark but loving character. Also, the relationship between Sidney and Ralls was constantly intriguing, and along with the romance, really drove the story home. It's a fun small epic. P.S: That octopus was awesome. They cut out it's eye; it looked kind of funny.

I've never found John Wayne to be a very good actor, but this was not one of his worst by any means. It had a descent plot although a somewhat contrived ending. The scenery and graphics were good, especially the octopus, and there were a few very beautiful women in the film.

Beautiful, if unimaginative, South Seas sets, and some wonderful action setpieces.

Not bad. John Wayne is a hardass, like usual, who beats up an octopus for fun.
