Summary: A charming, smooth-talking gambler calling himself Chris Hale arrives in Ashton, home of the Corelli shoe factory. Claiming to have lived there as a boy, he soon ingratiates himself with the townspeople... including attractive heiress Elaine Corelli, wheelchair-bound since a recent accident. This re-teaming of Cotten and Valli rekindles their "The Third Man" spark, and Byington and Stewart are very good in support, but the plot is not interesting, the script is without flair and the direction is lackluster.

If you can stand the cliche masquerading as a plot, the performances are good.
