A pretty good ol' flick. The first act, in which the two leads fall in delirious love, is the strongest. The conclusion is less satisfying to our modern sensibilities than I'm sure it was in 1940.

Couldn't take my eyes of a ravishing Vivien Leigh, but the story was a bit hackneyed and overall the pacing was slow. Still, very memorable performances from Leigh and Robert Taylor.

Not the expected emotional tour de force, mainly because it's trying so awfully hard to be one. Separating herself from the goop, Vivien Leigh gives another memorable performance. She's like a frail kitten or some dear little pet you just want to take care of --all the more sad when she makes a career choice that's patently unsuited for her.
