Convincing drama centering on the complex subject of illegal immigrants. This problem gets a human face in Bilal's personal story and, instead of politics, Lioret makes it about compassion, determination and dreams of a better life. The tender relationship between Bilal and Simon is created with a well-composed script and accomplished acting. Lindon, magnetic and naturalistic, commands your attention. A very good film.

Unbelievably good, in an under-the-skin kind of way. The script is trimmed to perfection - not one word seems unnecessary. And great performances all the way around. Magnificent, just magnificent.

It isn't an average movie on the immigration issue as it goes beyond the evident prejudice, even if the theme is always there somehow.

The film is obviously touching and has good performances, but I think it oversimplifies the problem. Lioret's heart is in the right place, and he rightfully takes aim at xenophobic attitudes, but the solution is not as simple as letting everyone go wherever they please. The real problem seems to be that the girl has a dick of a father. It's still a moving and understated film, although it seems to conform to a specific "arthouse issues drama" template without any diversions from the formula.

Pretty much a downer and a one-sided hyperbolic view of illegal immigrants--in France. I kept wondering, were things that much better in the UK?? They never explained why they were all trying to get there. Like it was the Emerald City or something.
