What the fuck was that. My best guess is that they were spoofing mediocre to terrible 80's movies that I haven't seen. Maybe it would have been hysterical if I had seen those movies but as it is I really hated this movie. I laughed maybe three times. Mostly I just said, "What the fuck?!?", over and over again.

The precursor to everything alt-comedy that came after it. Wain and his compatriots from "The State" throw away reality, normality and most other "-ality's" in this hilarious take on a 1980's summer camp. Chock full of unknowns who are now everywhere (Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks) there are so many ridiculous moments it almost takes 2-3 viewings to take it all in. Even the extra's are hilarious: "I neeeed Parsley." One of my favorite comedies ever.

This movie can be so funny sometimes. And it has Bradley Cooper sans shirt. All of that good stuff is in the first half of the movie when it took itself seriously. Then a completely new film comes out halfway through where pure crazy exists and parody fills the void. This new film isn't fun, it's not funny, has no heart and is painful to watch. This movie only scores in the forties because the first half is everything the second isn't. There's a line between silly and stupid that was crossed.

Really bad. For a parody to work, the jokes have to be funny. The ones in this movie are not.

A very funny movie that has a cast of many new comedy stars (Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks etc.). At my summer camp, this movie is almost required viewing for first year counselors because it captures the essence of the job. As such, this movie may be lost on those who have never worked as camp counselors.

Though the movie fails as a parody for the most part, it succeeds in its ability to really make me laugh by its non-sequitur humor. There are a few scenes of nonsense that get me every time (the van into the tree, flying hamburger out of nowhere, changing hair length from one shot to the next, and the shed scene, for example). But the thing about Wet Hot American Summer is that it doesn't care if you like it or not. And I think I like that about it.

I guess I just don't really "get it"? It definitely wasn't bad, but it was kinda boring, and all the moments some people say they shit themselves laughing at I just found mildly amusing. It's certainly not a good parody at all (at ALL), but the absurdist stuff was fun and it had a rockin' cast.

Am I the only one who saw Dazed and Confused here? The subject matter is not quite the same, but tonally, I see it. Don't get me wrong, I liked this quite a bit more than Dazed and Confused. If you're interested in comedy in the '00s, this movie has to be pretty significant. A whole pile of folks who would go on to do great comedies show up here. I can easily see how people would throw this up with their favourite comedies. It's consistantly funny and has that spirit of rewatchability to it.

Just brilliant absurdity. Only reason it didn't get a 100 comes from a handful of story arcs that just weren't as funny as others. I was not prepared for how funny this movie is. I was going to comment on Paul Rudd, but then remembered far too many other actors that made this film hilarious and decided to just applaud the cast in general. Most underrated comedy I've ever laid eyes on. Bring on that Prequel I saw mentioned!

It throws jokes and gags at the audience to see what sticks, and it's extremely hit-or-miss. Those that miss come often and hard; those that hit come harder, with a lot quirkiness and originality. The whole movie is incredibly stupid though -- I'd hate it if I had watched it in a bad mood.
