Summary: The Midwestern mothers of two Leopold and Loeb--like murderers move to Hollywood, California in the 1930s and open a dancing school for would-be Shirley Temples seeking to break into the movies. Adelle (Debbie Reynolds) falls in love with a Texas millionaire (Dennis Weaver), but Helen (Shelley Winters) turns to an evangelist (Agnes Moorehead) and gradually goes off the deep end. Soon corpses of all kinds start piling up. (imdb)

"The layers of pastiche that fuel What's the Matter with Helen? multiply like Shelly Winters's titular character's fat white rabbits." - Eric Henderson

Not awful, but far from great, although it improves with a second viewing. There are some interesting bits here and there, but it should've been weirder, scarier, or funnier. It just feels like it's lacking something special.

It's Shelly Winters going batshit crazy, what's not to like? Plus a pre-teen girl doing a 30's burlesque act singing Alice Faye's "Nasty Man" in a Mae West voice; top that!

Campy murder tale. Good fun; Debbie ideal in period setting.

Dull and unrewarding entry in the older-chicks-in-horror-flicks subgenre, despite the star cast
