Philosophy isn't cinematic, but that's no excuse. Film looks cheap w/ flat natural lighting& bland set design, rather than usual period piece lushness. Also, 2 much INTERNAL ground 2 cover & this only strings together dialogue scenes & quickly cuts away. Jump cuts & dream sequences designed 2 create a sense of action only interrupt main story. Assante crackles in lead, but some accents ring false, further hampering this mostly superficial greatest-hits characterizations of legendary iconoclasts
