Summary: When New York attorney Gordon Hocheiser meets Louise Callan, the girl of his dreams, he schemes to eliminate his aging, senile mother, even though he promised his late father that he'd always take care of her. He fears that his batty mom's eccentricities will shortly lead to Louise's departure.

There is (or was) a cult for this little comedy, and one can see why; it has transgressive humor (when the "tush" scene isn't the worst part, it's REALLY not for everyone), some great lines ("He made a caca in the bed"), and a legendarily grim alternate ending. It's not a great film; it's too short to really milk its scenario, and Carl Reiner's direction lacks the punch to really make it a classic. But the performances are great: George Segal and Ruth Gordon make the most out of the material.

I don't think this is the funniest movie ever made like some people do -- this had a following long before every grade Z picture started claiming to be a cult movie -- but it's engagingly bizarre and often funny. A few moments are notably crude for a 1970 mainstream film, but disgustoid modern movies like _Scary Movie_ actually make this one look respectable
