comedy!!??

Great performances are the basis of a film centered around complex and sincere characterizations. The little things are what make everything come together so well, especially as one notices the progression, or lack thereof, of the characters.

It's a really good, easy movie to watch, so there is no harm in saying its one of those films even better upon reflection.

Not quite as enjoyable as 25 Watts, but still decent. It's too bad Rebella is dead, I was really looking forward to more work from this pair of directors. :(

There's a lot of wonderful deadpan humor in this film. Jacobo is both a comic and a tragic figure, someone you want to love but he just doesn't get it. Marta is the real heart and soul of the film, with a really endearing performance from Mirella Pascual. Although the ending may appear ambiguous, I think it's pretty clear that she's undergone a personal triumph. It's a warm, funny and consistently engaging movie. Definitely one for any Kaurismaki fans to check out.

Excellent performances all round. The script is sparse but well concieved and the humour is so dry I was left gasping.
