The character, *Will Penny*, is not as bright as a new penny, but he has a sense of his own worth, as a cowhand, and as a man. He's not a heroic Western hero, but he is as tough as the times in which he lives. Many who see this film will come away with the impression that Charlton Heston is an under-rated actor. Perhaps. What is certain is that here he gives one of his most memorable performances.
