Almost worthless, and that's before Zooey Deshcanel DROWNS HER KITTEN IN A BAG

Zooey Deschanel saves this film, which at times was poorly written and so predictable. Yet still somewhere admist the mix of predictability lies the character of Reese Holdin who is struggling with what has happened in her life. She returns home in order to get the letters her parents wrote to each other, but what she finds is her aging father down on his luck, and living with a struggling musician and a former student.

I couldn't get past the kitten murder, so if this movie redeemed itself after that point I'll never know.

I really only watched this for Zooey. The movie itself is a bit wanky and depressing, and in love with its own indie cleverness. Also, Ed Harris's wig is ridiculous.

The anatomy of a hipster. Trust me I initially meant it in the most unfavorable light. But the protagonist is so mordant and yet sentimentally alluring that you can't help but get sucked into this film's quirky gloom.

Tender, sad, lovely. Terrific acting.

Harris gets top billing, but this movie belongs to Deschanel, who is outstanding. The film follows her journey as she struggles to reconnect with a father she barely knew, and must decide if she'll exploit him for a big pay-day. It's well-acted, and Ferrell is great in a rather subdued role that's touching and funny without ever being loud. Things get a bit rushed in the final act, as Rapp pushes the movie to the finish line, dodging a bit of slow set-up stuff that made the opening work so well.

Zooey Deschanel's character was so thoroughly unlikeable and uninteresting that I couldn't watch this movie past the first 30 minutes or so. Simply dreadful.

Winter passing is a pretty simple movie - a basic coming of age story with cliche charachters and obvious resolution. Sounds pretty bad, but it actually isn't. The mood of this movie is absolutely great - you don't even need to listen to what the people are saying, you kind of sink into it and feel it. Very good atmosphere with very good music. But the best part of the movie is the amazing performance by Zooey Deschanel. This is 100% her movie and she does wonders with the poor script.

The film is better than I thought, although not a great movie. It no has a great story, but worth the interesting interaction between the characters and a good performance of Zooey Deschanel.

This movie doesn't deserve the low score's it's received. Definitely decent outside of the scenes that take place in New York, & Ed Harris' character is memorable & pleasant.
