Some really awesome animation and story-telling. My mom let my brother and I watch this at a very young age, probably because it was a cartoon and she thought it was harmless. Maybe she should have previewed it, because I think it's part of the reason we're so messed up.

State-of-the-art (for its time) animation and some humorous plot twists.

The animation is what you expect from the 70s. The voice acting was horrible as well as a crapload of plot holes.

Every time I watch this film I notice more and more flaws, and yet every time I love it more. The Nazi allegory comes off as pretty lame in the days of Godwin's Law, and "they killed Fritz" is cringeworthy. But the backgrounds are beautiful, the score is great, the voice acting is engaging and unique, and the blood and tits should please the 14-year-old in us all.

All of Bakshi's films teeter dangerously towards my vilified range of film, which is, too dumb for adults too adult for children. However, there's an undeniably realized charm in Wizards which makes it palatable. The figure on the poster sells it, if you dig him maybe you'll enjoy ride along.

Technology evil! Nature good! Religion stupid! Never mind that science allows us to live longer, healthier, more productive lives, and makes things like these dumb films possible. A billion plot holes, and crappy characters almost go without saying. Don't much like the animation either, with constant change in sizes, perspective, and re-used cells. All-around shit.

I don't have anything against Bakshi, but I didn't find this very appealing. The characters are flat and bland (making them vulgar doesn't make them any more interesting), the story is very slow and whenever something happens it's usually pretty inexplicable (e.g. the priest scene, which seemed pointless and empty), and the immaturity of it all mars the experience.

Wears it's metaphor on it's sleeve like a shiny, Swastika-shaped cuff-link, which isn't quite a bad thing. Pretty enjoyable film, but nothing really spectacular.

Sloppy and stoopid animated fantasy. I have no clue why anyone would look at this and decide to give Bakshi a budget to try and adapt LOTR.

As a rule I like Ralph Bakshi, and though people bag this I actually like it

Bakshi's ideas are interesting, but Wizards is proof enough that he has no real idea how to tell a story in cinematic terms.

Wizards is pretty terrible in many ways, but it has an appealing side to it. I always somewhat enjoy the work of Ralph Bakshi, he got the formula right with Wizards. The story telling is sometimes sloppy, you despise most of the characters and the animation isn't incredible. Despite all this, it's very easy to enjoy the film for what it is: a ridiculous and gruesome adventure with great style and music. Wizards feels like an exploitation fantasy epic, it's always a treat to watch.

It hasn't aged all that well, and even in its day WIZARDS was more successful as an example of how animation could be used to tell more adult stories than it was as a movie on its own terms. In particular, the Questing stuff falls pretty flat today, but I still like the film's many visual layers (not the least of which lies in the shamelessness with which Bakshi ripped off the work on underground cartoonist Vaugn Bode).

Ralph Bakshi is a genius and his style is immaculate.

This piece's got complete odd and strange idea: war machine against failry fellows. I know that he "ripped off" the idea from The Lords of the Rings but this way it looks just awful. For who he pointed this film I cannot imagine. Strange but true, but the most Bakshish characters are soldiers with gas mask on. They he made fine. The rest is mishmash.

Dark and atmospheric. Entertaining. Once.

Another icky Bakshi film

It was made some people who really cared about what they were doing and didn't have a lot of money to do it with. Good ideas and bad ideas thrown in together haphazardly. There's beauty, brilliance and heart here but also a lot of suck.

This seemed very unique and wonderful to my 16 year old mind at the time... Try it...
