Out of all the things wrong with this movie, its worst offence is doubtlessly its condescending, new agey bowel movement of a script, which I'm certain was written down on blocks of tofu. "Blah blah blah indians, great spirits, the slaughter of nature, wolfs... majestic wolf, I have windchimes in my pubic hairs and they lull me off to a world of beautyful dreams" Yeah. Fuck this film. Horror? You're doing it wrong.

I like the concept of this movie. It isn't a traditional horror movie but it does have some horror elements. The story was very good. They could have cut about 20 minutes from this movie and we wouldn't have missed it. There was just too little going on for much of this movie, I understand this is just a conceit of the time when this movie was made but it doesn't really make a difference. I would have liked this film a lot better if they would have tightened up the script. The acting was great.

It's a mixed bag. It's a little bit too preachy for it's own good, but I also really liked the gritty feel it has and the wolf scenes were cool. James Horner's soundtrack resounds the coming of Alien movies a whole lot, so much that it's actually a bit distracting even if I love his music. A very different take on the werewolf genre for certain, but it could have been way shorter.

Michael Wadleigh directed two films and never worked again. But I would've liked him to, because with Wolfen, which was one of at least three wolf pictures to come out in 1981, he entrusts an acute otherworldly atmosphere to New York City that I can't recall ever seeing on screen before, from the Battery to the Bronx and the top of the Brooklyn Bridge looking down, you feel the ghosts possessing this ancient land. You'll understand when you see the movie.

It had some potential and good scenes, but in general it's too slow and takes it's silly premise way too seriously.

Starts off like a gritty noir take on an investigation involving werewolves, but swiftly, yet completely devolves into a mess of cryptic talk of shape shifting native americans and over exposed, high contrast wolf vision. Finney was the right man for the job, but the esoteric bullshit was dragging him down. It doesn't help that '81 was the single greatest year ever for werewolf movies either.

I liked the idea of urban werewolves, and I thought both Finney and Gregory Hines were both very good in this.

An interesting entry into the genre. Well acted. Warning: contains real footage of wolves being brutally murdered.

In arrogance man knows nothing of what exists. What a brilliant mix of police procedural and werewolf/folk horror this is. I could literally spend days with Dewey hanging around NY trying to figure out what the fuck is happenning. We are the savages. These wolf spirits are just the long-time survivors of our destruction. Now that a NY real estate tycoon has some plans for abandoned South Bronx, their home, shit will hit the fan big time.

This is an interesting variation on the usual werewolf theme and Wadleigh's first film since _Woodstock_. Good acting (especially from Hines in his screen debut as a jivey coroner), imaginative photography, and well-done gore (including a supremely realistic decapitation) make this sometimes slow, overlong "Thinking Man's" monster movie worth watching.

Interesting approach to the werewolf story, with some pseudo-mystical elements. Finney is excellent.

Lobos estreava há 40 anos nos EUA. Tô dando três estrelas e meia porque não sei se o amei como obra sócio-política ou se achei medíocre, não consigo me decidir, uma coisa é certa a cena passada no bar indígena é maravilhosa. BlurayRip RARBG.

Interesting, but rather plodding version of the werewolf myth directed by, interestingly enough, the director of Woodstock.

Of the three "werewolf" movies of 1981, Wolfen is the grittiest. It also may may be the least fun, but a very high bar had been set. Most impressively, the film succeeds in showing NYC completely empty. How does that happen?
