Summary: This Crime Does Not Pay series short focuses on unwed mothers, specifically those who believe that they cannot confide in anyone and, therefore, go to clinics run by people more interested in profit than proper medical care. In this dramatization, women pay $500 to enter a clinic and must sign papers in which they agree to give up their babies for adoption. Childless couples then pay the clinic operators $500 to adopt the children. (imdb)

A shady maternity hospital takes advantage of expectant mothers who need secrecy. The unscrupulous docs trick the women into signing over their babies for adoption. It's amusing that out of the three women, two of them were married secretly, and we never find out why the third is there. I guess in 1940 they couldn't make heroines/victims out of the women who (gasp!) had sex out of wedlock. The short's not so bad... could use some punching up but it's got a couple of good tricks up its sleeve.
