Summary: September 11, 2001 was an unusually warm day in New York. Will Jimeno, an officer with the Port Authority Police Department, was tempted to take a personal day to enjoy his hobby of bow hunting, but ultimately decided that he would go to work. Sergeant John McLoughlin, a respected veteran of the PAPD, had been up for hours – a requirement of his daily, 1½-hour trek to the city. They and their colleagues made their way to midtown Manhattan, just like they did any other day. Only this wasn't any other day. (Paramount)
Starring: Nicolas Cage, Stephen Dorff, Viola Davis, Maria Bello, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jay Hernandez, Michael Shannon, Nicky Katt, Arthur J. Nascarella, Patti D'Arbanville, Julie Adams, Michael Peña

Our heroes get trapped in rubble in the first act, without doing literally anything useful. After that it's all crying relatives, endless flashbacks and I felt like the movie spent it's powder too early. Overall the only thing to differentiate this from any given disaster movie is that it's way more boring; seemingly coasting on the fact that it's, gasp, about nine eleven.

I was quick to judge this movie. I thought it was too soon to capitalize on a national tragedy. I thought it was wrong to try and dramatize something that was still so raw and fresh in people's memories. But this film did the best it could and did the right thing by not trying to re-enact the entire event from a broad viewpoint, but instead focused on the stories of just a few of the people who were there.

Not as bad as so many people say, but sure not good either. Good and realistic pieces of film are interspersed with truly bad pieces. To give examples: the way down to the towers are really realistic, you clearly see the fear on everyvody's minds, but then again, what's up with the jezus-part? I get it, but that's so horribly wrong. And the flashbacks to their actual lives could'hve been much better too.And again, just as I expected: way too patroitic/heroic.Good parts and bad parts in this one.

Just a product used to take advantage and rise above the tragedy of 9/11 and boost up American patriotism, with many uncalled for and boring monologues along with a futile and inefficacious attempt at perturbation by Cage. Makes me lose all reverence in Stone.

This film is not a fitting tribute to the New York servicemen who battled to save lives on Sep. 11th. Nicholas Cage gives a great performance, but it's buried under layers of sentimental patriotism and cliches poured on by the writers and directing. I think the producers assumed that they couldn't put a foot wrong because they were tackling an issue that was so strong in the heart of the American people. But even the Americans hate this, and if anything it just ends up insulting to the viewer.

Captures the aura and mindset of the country pretty well (it's just that I never liked the post 9/11 mindset. "Let's pull together and do what's right. Exercise blind aggression towards a decentralized enemy.") People could watch this in a few decades and pretty well understand what it all felt like. I just don't understand why Oliver Stone was commissioned, or why he would sign onto this generic piece. Has he been lobotomized?
