With the fates of mankind - and mutantkind - in their hands, the X-Men Face their most dangerous mission ever. (20th Century Fox)
Ooh, one of the sequels where the 2nd actually IS better than the 1st. Many more small crisp details, a nice enough villain and most of all: the black, catholic german mutant that is ... so unheard of. You have to love that.
The characters were more interesting than most, and the comic book did get some life in this thriller. It kept me interested, it had something to root for besides just the main battle between mutants and a deranged hateful neo-con human. It made me a fan of the series.
Over emphasis on Wolverine, again, and they more or less removed Cyclops, the one X-Man you shouldn't fuck with, from the movie, which hurts double when he dies so early in the third film, but, that aside, if you're going to make an X-Men movie, it's hard to think of doing something better than this. A good mixture of action and plot, without being overly complicated or hard to follow. Just a fun film.
An avid comic book and X-men fan, this is by far the best of the trilogy. B. Singer was able to do with this film what he wanted to with the first one. Most importantly letting the characters be as strong for the film as the action. To think of how much they could have done wrong with my beloved X-men franchise...
