Summary: The story revolves around former Yakuza underling Kiryu Kazuma, who has recently been released from prison after a lengthy incarceration, and is trying to piece his life together and distance himself from his Yakuza past. Along the way he encounters Haruka, a distressed young girl who is trying to find her lost mother. Unfortunately Kiryu's problems slowly escalate as he is pursued by a former associate, the baseball bat-wielding psycho Majima Goro who has a grudge to settle with Kiryu. (imdb User Comments)
Adaptation of the first Yakuza videogame which retells the same basic story with about a third of the exposition, dropping you into the middle of things without ever really explaining who anyone is or what their motives are. An amusing blur of nightclubs, macho posturing, seedy streets, armed robberies, batting cages and vicious brawls packed with cartoonish violence. Just don't try to make any sense of it. I'm also disappointed that no one gets a bicycle smashed over their head in this film.
As a film it leaves a little to be desired. I feel like being a Yakuza fan is a must (i am), otherwise its hard to follow because the movie doesnt go into any depth about who these people are. But its got good action and the Yakuza charm without the necessary depth that the video games give you to push the story even further. Still, I had a good time even if the source material gave Miike a lot more to work with than he used.
Baseado em um jogo de Play2, esse longa é totalmente despretensioso, mas ainda assim é possível encontrar o estilo Miike. Um filme leve e muito divertido. Destaque para o Yakuza de tapa-olho e taco de baseball!!
