Summary: Traveling blind masseurs Tokuichi and Fukuichi are on the go from season to season, offering their services at hot spring mountain resorts and spas. Though unable to see, Tokuichi is extremely sensitive, able to deduce intimate details about people from sounds, scents, and touch. Nice little slice-of-life in a hot springs resort in 1930s Japan, with a relaxing mood and some pleasant comedy. Unfortunately the characters are a bit bland, which, coupled with some questionable acting, makes it hard to care much for their stories. I like the overall atmosphere, but expected more from Ishii. Kusanagi was great, though. (After seeing the 1938 original: This is a very faithful remake. Some lost charm is made up for by improved comedy, colorfulness, and Kusanagi's performance.)

Not a very strong movie. The characters are bland, directing quite weak, story not too great. The boy is so unlikable too

The perfect mix of comedy with drama. My initial reason for watching this was because of Ryo Kase and Katsuhito Ishii's previous work, but Tsuyoshi Kusanagi becomes the main attraction.
