Exceptional little movie that's been marketed as a sapphist epic. Every time I see the poster or the video box and see that blurb "Seething lesbian passion behind convent walls!" I want to scream, "THIS IS NOT A LESBIAN MOVIE!!!!!" Seething aesthetic passion is more like it, but that's harder to sell. A movie I will never forget

While some of this film is rather dull and heavy handed, it still in some ways artfully illustrates the oppression and opposition intelligent women faced. In a time when even the slightest difference of opinion could easily be interrupted as going against traditional church doctrine. One women does, and in the end suffers for it, being cast down and brought down by those she thought she could trust.
