My favorite book ever, and the movie just couldn't live up

Again a film that is as great as every critic has ever said. A classic, but should also be studied for how it wrongly used black stereotypes and championed the "lost cause".

Everything it's supposed to be: unwieldy, lavish, and hugely memorable. Leigh, de Havilland, and McDaniel all give great performances, and the film has a great sense of storytelling. But it is a bit of a slog, and the second half gets wildly uneven and can even feel arbitrary at times. A deserved classic, and definitely unique, but the older I get the less I respond to it.

I like it a fair deal - it looks amazing and has an epic sweep to it that I found quite enjoyable. The praising of the racist Old South is grating and at times I found Scarlett a bit too selfish to stand but that is also part of what makes her so interesting. I didn't love it but I'd definitely not be against the idea of returning to it in a few years time.

Alright, but really long and pretty boring in my opinion. Good story, though.

This sweeping Civil War epic somehow managed to make me feel somewhat sorry for the South, which is quite a feat for any film to accomplish. Gable delivers a once-in-a-lifetime performance, and the scenery is strikingly beautiful, especially coming from such an early age in American cinema. I would recommend the color version of the film just to get the full effect, but either way, this film is equally classic.

Gotta rewatch this. But damn, it was tedious.
