OMG! Pure terror! I'm shocked!

One of my favorite zombie films right along with Dead Set. I vaguely recall having a negative reaction to the ending when I first watched it, but upon repeat viewing don't know why I might have disliked it.

Having already seen Quarantine there's not much to say about [Rec], which provided the basis for the virtually shot-for-shot American remake. It tells the same story in 15 minutes less, which has to be commended, but Quarantine uses the extra time to build up a wee bit more tension, and is perhaps slightly more polished as a result. There's really very little between them though: both effective, entertaining horrors that make good use of the single-camera docu-footage approach.

Great genre-pic both zombie- and handheldmovie-wise. Better than Paranormal Activity which I actually liked too, more scary than Cloverfield, but the "found-tape"-thing still doesn't have the same effect as when watching Blair Witch the first time. What I especially liked about the movie was the way it gradually took away certain elements in "moviemaking" right at the end - starting with removing the general light and later the camera flashlight, so that only the nightvision remained. Awesome!

A tightly stuctured and effective little zombie movie and in the horror-mockomentary subgenre one of least annoyingly executed, probably because the cameraman is largely anonymous unlike Blair Witch, Paranormal Activity and Cloverfield.

Small, obviously low-budgeted horror film that's quite claustrophobic. Has some genuine terrrifying "cat-out-the-closet" moments that are brilliant and uses the diagetic camera really well for this. And the last 15 minutes are gloriously fucked up.

Hailed by zombie fans as being the next big thing. I found it rather annoying. Like a child trying to get your attention by being really loud and doing stupid things. This might in part be because of the extremely annoying TV journalist. Bad acting, and loads of it.

Based on the premise, I couldn't have imagined enjoying this. But it is actually done really well. The acting isn't too bad, and the climax and ending is pretty tense.

cool and creepy

This is by no means a "90" in the "best horror film of all time" bracket ... but "90" for what it IS ... a brilliantly made, low budget horror flick that builds from sheer boredom to total chaos in the space of 80 crazy minutes, and builds brilliantly. It is very "real", in that people are shouting, incomprehensible, loud, angry ( dont expect a clear and precise script !) and totally "human" in everything they do, and I loved it !

Well done overall. For a film that is relying on jump scares, it manages to feel like more than that when you watch it. Not quite reaching the level of, but reminiscent of the greats like Alien and the like.

Silly but fun. The plucky heroine's charisma keeps the film alive, but the perpetual cameraman POV begins to grate after a while. Even though the various camera-related tricks feel like a cheap device, it's hard to deny the tension of the climactic scenes, being stalked in pitch black by rabid zombies.

A cut above the usual zombie movie. Even though the excessive screaming and frenetic camera motion are at times off-putting, the whole thing seems somehow to have been put together with a sense of fun. Some good sequences and directorial choices.
