great script, acting and floating camera. Sobenbergh's little masterpiece. It's rare to see such powerful human relationship drama. I actually looked the same way after watching this film as Peter Gallagher's character after watching videotape in it.

So natural and easy to follow that its absorbing and provocative plot will stay with you for a long time. Impressive debut by Soderbergh, which helped to develop a new wave of independent american cinema in the following decade.

james spader always creeps me out so much

Great screenplay and performances, and the minimalist score perfectly captures the tension. Now I see what the fuss must have been all about.

A very simple, yet extremely well-done film. There's not a lot of subtext involved, but it's not needed, and would clutter the delicate character interactions that bring this story so much life. Laura San Giacomo is especially winning, although no woman could resist the charm of James Spader for long.

Excellent film about the fractured lives that result from dishonesty. Soderbergh allows each of the characters to be individuals, to be full-blooded human beings distinct from one another and not easily categorized into cliches. Soderbergh patiently allows his camera to linger on his actors, and nicely uses video footage to mirror Spader's intellectual hang-ups. Well done film all around.
