i've always loved Tiers, am bummed that i switched to percentiles and would've wanted to switch back, percentiles are horrible (not in theory, ofc, but in the way they're presented)
but if the new changes really work as planned and bring in new people, then it's something i can live with

Re: Revamped Title Information Page
on the new title pages, can you make the genre (which is now in grey just under the title) clickable, like it is in the older version?
and while we're at it, making the year clickable would also be cool (to show all the films in that year, perhaps filtered by default by the ones i've seen)

the recommendation system is exactly the same iirc, the difference is strictly in what information is shown in the UICosmicMonkey wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 9:44 pmThe increased granularity definitely makes for more accurate recommendations in my opinion.

Re: Are there still a lot of people who haven't switched from Tiers to Percentiles?
i resisted the change for many years, then took the plunge and i now regret it. the reasons have to do with legibility mainly: - percentiles are too granular, the out-of-10 resolution of the tiers is just right for me, especially at a glance - when they're printed right next to the given scores, tha...

Re: My Neighbor Totoro and a sense of foreboding
i'm gonna echo Narg and snallygaster and say I also felt the foreboding. For me it starts when they first enter the house and get spooked by the black dirtballs. i can't imagine this not being an intentional move by Miyazaki, and I see it as a critique of the (often cheap) devices used in cinema to ...

"Your Scores" orders by Name
when clicking on a genre you get a list of all movies, filtered by that genre. If you add as a filter "Your Scores", it automatically orders by Name, instead of the default, by score. this is a new and unwelcome bug, because I usually want to order my existing rankings by score in order to...

Re: Theme: Wordless expression
thanks for the recommendations so far, some great starting points. been putting off Ozu far too long i love Kwaidan but i wouldn't have thought of it, maybe cause of the narration. will definitely check out the other two and yes, there was unlimited potential for this kind of expression in the silen...

Theme: Wordless expression
hi guys, i haven't posted here in a while, i'm sorry There is this tendency in some modernist writers that the book "What Ever Happened to Modernism?" drew to my attention - of being at a loss for words, of the inadequacy of words to express new feelings or images. From the Lord Chandos Le...

Re: Social Commentary
yeah i've also noticed this duplicitous nature, where a movie will feed both sides of a certain issue. i was struck by it in Seven Psychopaths - way to please the shoot'em up fans as well as the zen peace buffs, all under the cover of meta
