When someone replies to one of your posts in these forums, you automatically get a private message. That's a nice feature, but I'm guessing that once the forums are open to the public the amount of automatic private messages could get rather excessive, so there should probably be a way to turn that feature off. (Pardon me if this feature already exists, but I haven't found it.) A nice solution could be to allow users to only receive private messages for replies to posts of their own choosing, e.g. they may be eager to know if someone replied to their post in this bug report topic but less interested in whether someone replied to their throwaway remark about how some obscure actor looks exactly like their uncle; you get the idea. You could make it so that while you're writing the message, you can tick an checkbox called something like "notify me if someone replies to this message".

That's true. We should have a way for you to turn off automatic messages on replies to your posts. That should be an option in your User Profile... we'll add it to the bug list.

Agreed. A 'Notify me about new replies' tickbox or something would be nice, and a option to completely disable/enable the new-reply-notifier. Futhermore, i think the way/format or whatever it's called the messages are presented need some changes, perhaps 'mpowell has made the following reply to your post in the Criticker Bugs topic at the Forums:' in bold text? And the use of italic for my orginal post? Perhaps the usage of quotes. Also you can only delete 1 or ALL messages, well.. i don't adding something so i can delete message 2, 4 and 7 in 1 action is that important right now, but maybe something for later :) And if i understand this correctly all messages get deleted after 30 days in the inbox, regardless of near-empty, half or full inbox - I don't think i need it right now, but i saved some Private Messages on other forumss before. For example someone sends another user a list of filmsuggestions but the guy/gal is very busy that month, or goes on a holiday, being able to save a message would be nice sometimes... Maybe it's better to allow up till 50 messages regardless of how long they're in the inbox, and delete the oldest one when message 51 is received? I suppose you have to wait and see how often the message system is used and if it's less then you expected you can increase the inbox to 100 or something
