Like I mentioned in Favorite Film of All Time, I consider my Top 10 The Decalogue. These are the 10 movies that set the standard for all other movies that I watch, and are the only movies that I've given a rating of 100 to. Here's a brief breakdown of each (all Duration As Favorite are approximations):

#1 RAISING ARIZONA
Duration As Favorite: 20 years
Influence: Funniest movie I have ever seen in my life.

#2 SUSPIRIA
Duration As Favorite: 13 years
Influence: Inspiring use of sights and sounds, but also highly endearing for so many little reasons.

#3 RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK
Duration As Favorite: 28 years
Influence: Most thrilling adventure movie I've ever seen, and probably the first movie that truly made me realize the joy of cinema.

#4 MCCABE & MRS. MILLER
Duration As Favorite: 5 years
Influence: No other movie creates a mood so perfectly for me like this one.

#5 LOVE AND DEATH
Duration As Favorite: 16 years
Influence: The second funniest movie, and perhaps the most all around fun.

#6 THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY
Duration As Favorite: 20 years
Influence: The first Western I ever really sat through, and I was enthralled. This has transcended genre over the years.

#7 TAXI DRIVER
Duration As Favorite: 20 years
Influence: The first time I ever felt a certain kinship with a movie character. Probably not healthty, but I was a moody teenager at the time.

#8 BLUE VELVET
Duration As Favorite: 20 years
Influence: My first real exposure to the beauty of dark and twisted cinema. The "In Dreams" scene is an absolute favorite on its own.

#9 SOYLENT GREEN
Duration As Favorite: 15 years
Influence: The first time I was truly moved by friendship and death in a movie.

#10 NIGHTS OF CABIRIA
Duration As Favorite: 5 years
Influence: Perhaps the most magnetic movie character I have yet encountered.

My top 10 list is littered with entries from "The Lonewolf and Cub" series, so I'll just count it as 1.

1.Beat-

Perfect film. Greatest film ever.

2.Seven Beauties (Pasqualino Setabellaza)-

Perfect film. Greatest ending to a film ever. Greatest acting performance in film history, by Giancarlo Giannini.

3. Cowboy Bebop: Knocking on Heaven's Door-

I think most anime sucks horribly, but this is a perfect film, greatest animated anything by a mile, and way better than the series, which was also awesome.

4. No Country for Old Men-

First non-perfect film on the list, but only by a bit. Greatest villain in film history, greatest American film ever, and in many ways, it's very similar to, and occasionally even surpasses both the number 1 and 2 entries on my list.

5. Legend of the Wolf-

Greatest action or martial arts film ever. Greatest final confrontation in film history. Completely revolutionized the kung fu genre. Solved the huge problem of undercranking, and did so on a budget of about $500,000. One of the two most purely entertaining films ever, along with Crank 2.

6. Johnny English-

Greatest comedy ever, possibly enhanced by my love of the James Bond franchise.

7. Lonewolf and Cub series-

This was actually number one for me for many, many years. Not only is it an insane, mind-blowing samurai epic with Ogami Itto bathed in blood, but it's the finest example of Bushido, the samurai code, and a stoic protagonist ever.

8. Seven Samurai-

Greatest film when it was released in 1954. Still amazing today.

9. Wild Strawberries-

Most thoughtful, deep, and original film of all time. Possibly the greatest all-around series of acting performances of all time.

10. Cool Hand Luke-

Two films not mentioned are rated higher, but this deserves special praise for being the most quotable film of all time, as well as one of the most memorable and deceptive, in terms of both theme and presentation.

It's hard to decide due to the fact that I have millions of a hundred rankings. This may be a bit of a cliche' list, but oh well, here's my ten:

1. A Clockwork Orange - Stanley Kubrick
2. 2001: A Space Odyssey - Stanley Kubrick
3. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb - Stanley Kubrick
4. Casablanca - Michael Curtiz
5. Citizen Kane - Orson Welles
6. Taxi Driver - Martin Scorcese
7. Scarface - Brian De Palma
8. Le Samourai - Jean-Pierre Melville
9. The Wizard of Oz (no matter how many times I see it it is always a magical experience for me) - Victor Fleming
10. Raiders of the Lost Ark - Steven Spielberg

I love Kubrick. A genius he is.
