Help me name that movie : need help naming a war movie

unfortunately I cant remember much about this movie ,,,
Infact I dont even know if it was a mini series or movie ...
all I know is I have spent the last 20 years watching war films ......lol

all I can remember is there was a guy that used to suck on a jawbreaker/gobstopper all the time ...
in one scene he was standing in the water and he stepped back on to a mine ,,,he spat out his gobstopper and took his foot off the mine and blew himself out .....I am pretty sure it was the vietnam war ....
any help ...much appreciated .......

It's been a long time since I have seen it, but it sounds like the amazingly overlooked, forgotten classic The Siege of Firebase Gloria.

Looks cool, but there appears to be no way to watch it in decent quality.. It was never released on DVD.. It's on Netflix VOD but that's only for US residents.
