tinker tailor soldier spy (tomas alfredson)

Post by AFlickering »

everything worth fighting for was lost long ago, but still the insects at MI6 scrabble for tiny, futile gains, while the "good guy" is so monstrously jaded he operates with the sociopathic manipulation of a grandmaster who wants only to watch the other pieces fall. it might be the greatest oldman performance, i don't know; no doubt it must be the scariest, all faint, knowing smiles as he dispatches with inexorable patience all that obstructs his fruitless goal. alfredson's patience is similarly cold and masterful, and the resignation to despair pervades entirely by the film's conclusion.
