I've ranked 9 films with a 6+ tier difference compared to user "imdb":

For me, that's not the case. I have seen the movie close to 15 times. I have no nostalgia about the movie - I just think the movie is perfect. I don't even think that the movie was great because of the times it was made in - I just think that even today it would be classic.

I use criticker to mainly get recommendations for foreign movies (English mostly). I don't use it to get recos for Hindi movies. Plus my taste in Hindi movies is very different from that in English ones. So I haven't ranked a single Hindi movie on criticker - I guess I must have seen more than a 1000 Indian movies I haven't ranked here. Also, I doubt if even half of those exist in the criticker database. Out of those which exist, most have been ranked by less than 20-30 people.

Looking through my rankings, I see that the only Hindi movie I have ranked is "Monsoon Wedding" which is a Mira Nair movie. Mira Nair makes movies for the western audience rather than an Indian audience.

Agree with you on Gran Torino, (horrible acting) but Clockwork Orange is a true classic.

People overrating movies for dubious reasons isn't anything new, but these entries into IMDb's Top 250 seem particularly absurd. Of course, that list is pretty much worthless anyway.
