For me, I label a score of 70 for a movie as Hollywood (including other at least semi-competent movie production hubs) average, factoring in all the garbage off-Hollywood which I attempt to avoid. I got to wondering how my discrimination process in picking movies for viewing fell in comparison that standard. The absolute average for someone who saw every movie possible regardless of quality, should be 50--but then it's hard to know how much garbage is out there.
Anyway, (there's no Criticker average score calculator for an individual's rankings that I could find, but it only took about 5 minutes) I tallied up my average and it came to 71.0.
So, you may axe, fucking what? IDK, I just thought it was cool that my average score came so close to what I consider the average of the decent movie pool I have access to, to be. I figured it could easily have been up in the 80s or down in the 60s. It also tells me that if I didn't have those below average flicks, I wouldn't be finding diamonds in the rough, like most recently (*shameless plug*), Like Sunday, Like Rain.
FWIW.
What's your average score?

Re: What's your average score?
Im not about to calculate it exactly but my tier 5 is mid 60s. Im very close to being one of those "every movie possible regardless of quality" viewers and still don't land at 50. My general rating rule is above 70 is worth re watching. 60-70 is worth a watch once. 50-60 is somewhat below average film but worth a watch as a fan of the films genre, director, stars etc. Below that 50 mark is the varying flavors of bad.

41-50 (out of 100 obviously) is where my Tier 5 is

My 70's are all tier 6, then 60's are tier 3. The only way to know for sure (if your obsessive like me) is to do the math--which doesn't take that long if all your scores are to the nearest 10.

Re: What's your average score?
my pass score is 30 because i like to have more room for good movies than bad ones.
my mean is 32.6.
there is no reason this should be the case. if i saw an unbiased sample of films, my average score would probably be below 20.

Why should it be 50? How did you arrive at that?
You assume that movies have a perfectly normal distribution and set the worst possible movie at 0 and perfect movie at 100.

It would be 50 if you're grading the movies on a scale relative to each other. You can skew that average up or down depending on you opinion of movies overall, and/or how you choose the movies you do watch, which is what my 70 and your 20 is.

Absolute scores of on person are meaningless to another person on criticker. Just like saying I ranked Star Trek at 71 is meaningless to another person. Your 71 may be Tier 2 and his 71 may be Tier 8.
Yeah, but not if I announce that 75 is my subjective average of the movies I see. 50 would be my average if I saw every movie, which would be the absolute average.
You need to tell us what tier 71 is for you. Also what's your median score and what tier does it fall in?
I did, 70. Calculating my average only confirmed it's accuracy.

As I said, because they would be rated against each other without dismissing and not viewing movies due to prejudice--justified or otherwise.

I'll take your word for it. But the only relevant point about tier is that your average score should show where your 5 tier is, if I understand tier correctly. Your average score should be simply the sum of your scores x the quantity of each score.
