Numbers in movies

Post by daglesz »

Does anybody have any information about the choosing of numbers used in movies? Is there a method, system or it is just a random procedure?

Here is an example of what i am talking about.

Yeah, it is a mythology and I think most movies and TV shows use it as a device to signify something is about to happen and usually bad.

You can read about the mythology here; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/23_enigma . There are sites that go into more detail about if you would like to look them up.

I'm not sure this example applies to the topic in question, but occasionally, directors also like to work in references to a certain event and/or subject into their film; Case in point, PTA's Magnolia, where the biblical passage in Exodus 8:2 is alluded to many times throughout the film through the repeated use of the numbers 8 and 2.

More often than not, I'd say the appearance of a specific number is the result of a conscious and deliberate choice rather than a random coincidence.
