I think it makes sense given the way you describe your decision on whether to watch a movie or not. I could be wrong, but I seem to recall noting that you did not include the director as a factor in your decision.
Actually, the director is one of the main things I look for in a film. Maybe the main one.
Hmm, I wonder why I was thinking that then. Well, then, to answer your original question, 4 isn't that few. You've ranked a lot of animation, which you excluded, and a lot of shorts, which (I'm guessing) don't tend to be by feature filmmakers. After those exclusions, I think we have a similar number of rankings. For me, there are 10 directors on my list, and they are all big name Hollywood types (Kubrick, Tarantino, Hitchcock, Spielberg, Coen bros, Zemeckis, Kevin Smith, Ridley Scott, Tony Scott). Other than Zemeckis, Smith, and Tony Scott, the rest of the list are directors for whom I'll watch anything they've made.
