How I Met Your Mother has a lot of sex references, I'll admit it. I'll also say it's not at all intelligent humor when it does so, but I enjoy that kind of humor for whatever reason. It is a sitcom that revolves largely around sex, and that's just it's form. That said it's not fair to say it's nothing but sex references, as it has some other seriously hilarious and genuinely well-written content. I think one probably doesn't notice this because Barney is such a prominent character (he pretty much gets all the viewers attention) and he's pretty much all about the sex. The amount of humorous moments between Ted and Marshall on the show are probably what I enjoy the most about it, and that's usually concentrated on other stuff than sexual humor. Also, it's the show that does pop-cultural references the best of any show I've seen, and that's something I enjoy. Not simply referencing it, but subtly working it into jokes.
It should also be mentioned that a huge amount of the content on Seinfeld is sex references. For the time that it aired (I realize the 90s isn't long ago, but it's long in TV years) I'm pretty surprised that the execs actually allowed it. Obviously not as much as on this show, but again, considering the time it was made it was pretty substantial.
