"Toy Story 2" (John Lasseter & Ash Brannon, 1999) better than original
"Shrek 2" (Andrew Adamson & Kelly Asbury, 2004) better than original
"The Lion King II: Simba's Pride" (Darrell Rooney & Rob LaDuca, 1998) almost as good as original
"Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn" (Sam Raimi, 1987) almost as good as original
"Friday the 13th Part 3" (Steve Miner, 1982)

The Empire Strikes Back is the sequel to end all sequels.

Sequels I personally enjoy in addition to the above mentioned,
Clerks 2, Wayne's World 2, Ghostbusters 2, Gremlins 2, Fright Night 2, and Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

It shouldn't take this long to get to The Godfather Pt. II.

Aparajito and The World of Apu are both nearly as good as Pather Panchali - The World of Apu might even be better.

I like Kill Bill Vol. 2 just as much as the first one though I tend to think of that as one movie anyway.

Not sure that it counts, since it's a trilogy in the loosest sense of the word, but The Good, The Bad and The Ugly deserves a mention. I haven't seen For a Few Dollars More yet though. On that topic, Sanjuro is almost as good as Yojimbo.
