A website such as Criticker derives a fair portion of its value (in all senses of the word) from the contributions and participation of its members. Such contributions are of course not limited to ranking movies but include writing reviews, creating collections, maintaining collections, participating in forum discussion, pointing out bugs, suggesting improvements, encouraging others to join, and so on. Criticker seems to work very well in this regard, largely because of the open and friendly atmosphere fostered by the website creators, and I think one more measure that would encourage long-term participation would be some kind of incentive to stay active. There are any number of ways this could be done, but my suggestion would be that after ten years of participation in the website, a user becomes a lifetime member, with free access to the otherwise 'pay only' features. Ten years is a long time (still four years away for me), and I feel this kind of reward would not be unreasonably large given the benefit to Criticker of having users willing to stick around that long. Just a thought.
