Just a weird quirk of statistics. Imagine a simple example where you have ranked 100 films, and they are perfectly distributed from 1 to 100, so that 1-10 is T1, 11-20 is T2, etc.
For Director A, you've ranked three movies an 87, 88, and 89. Average score is 88 and average tier is 9.
For Director B, you've ranked three movies an 81, 82, and 91. Average score is 84.6 and average tier is 9.3.
Essentially, all this means is that Tarantino's movies tend to be ranked higher within their respective tiers than Nolan's. It really has no significance.
Shouldn't higher average tier for a filmmaker mean higher average ranking
