**bump**... oh well... maybe I was a little harsh. Any other opinions?

Lists is obviously along very different lines to the main Criticker site, but after all it's only a spin-off. I'm thinking of it as something silly on the side to play around with rather than a serious database.

Anyway, I doubt it will ever effect people who don't want to use it but want to remain part of Criticker so I don't really see the problem. As long as the policies of the main site don't change, I can't see how this can be automatically slated as a bad thing.

I think that Criticker Lists can be useful as a way of getting to know how other people think about things. I minored in Sociology at college, and so I always find these sorts of things interesting. Eventually, maybe if enough data is collected the results could be applied to Criticker somehow. It is possible that the preferences people exhibit on Criticker Lists could have a correlation to their taste in movies. There could be some kind of scientific application here.

EDIT: Yeah, is there an official link?

I'm wondering if there will ever be a way of submitting lists without having to do the work of finding images to go with the entries. The work of doing so has prevented me from submitting.

This would be excellent. Also changing the picture requirement would be good too.

[...] at the moment it feels pretty ominous in its simultaneous distance from film recommendation yet affiliation with Criticker. Is there a mission statement or guiding ethos that can be examined in anticipation? I'd rather be let down gently if the aim is a populist Flixter nightmare/Amazon advert. Otherwise, there's hopefully better ways of bringing in Shrek 2 dislikers and their resulting advertising revenue.

I'm afraid I'm with paulo on this... The one thing Criticker Lists reminds me of right now is the thousands of annoying and money-cashing useless Facebook applications and quizzes, i.e. useless timewasters that have no real content whatsoever. You don't learn anything through Criticker Lists, like you do through Criticker.

I've always been a huge supporter of Criticker, and advertise it as much as possible (without being too annoying) on Facebook using my "I gave XXX a score of YY on Criticker.com" notes a few times a week, but these new Criticker lists is not something I will offer my support for. To me Criticker is a film website for people who enjoy films. In the community we've always lobbied for games and books versions of Criticker which would be non-film additions to Criticker that have real value, but these Criticker lists seem to me like like empty content for cheap revenue. I don't mind cheap marketing if you're providing valuable content in return (e.g. a Facebook application that would post my Facebook notes automatically), but these Criticker Lists?... I don't know...

I'm sure you've spent a great deal of time on this, but I thought Criticker was above this kind of money-making. If you want easy money, add a donate button which I'd gladly use. If you want more users, market the main website like I'm doing on Facebook.

At least those are my 2 cents...

[EDIT] Maybe it's not really fair to bash on something that has hardly even started, but I'm reasonably confident that this communication platform (a single thread in the Criticker forum) is quite far away from the targetted audience for the Criticker Lists and should therefore be of little influence on the popularity or success of Criticker Lists.

See I would disagree to an extent, I see Criticker Lists as just another way to discover people who carry similar tastes as yourself, only in a less structured sort of fun environment, and isn't that ultimately what Criticker is about? Also if it were to be something akin to Facebook apps it would be slapping you in the face with its exsistence on a daily basis, just like when my Facebook account informs me that a friend of mine has just located some sort of oddly colored animal on thier damn fake farm.

Pictures are a requirement that are here to stay, because the lists feature is designed to be very visual. I understand this might dissuade some possible creators from contributing, but is important to the feel of the utility.

PLEASE, NO ONE RATE THE LIST I LINK TO IN THIS POST, BECAUSE IT IS FLAWED!!!

Can you delete or let me modify this list that I made? I want to replace this with another title because it is not really a movie, even though IMDB says it is... Also, do there need to be more than 2 results for me to be able to see who else completed the list and be able to compare my results instead of only having the ability to comment? It says two people have completed it...

Sorry to bother you. =(

[defunct] Also, anyone, please don't steal my list idea (although I couldn't search for similar ideas before creating it), because that would just be sad...

EDIT: I created the list I wanted, so deleting the other one should be fine. However, the link to it somewhat frustratingly has "_iii" within it. There's no "_ii", and there's no "_i", which is presumably "eaten" by my original list, either. If only my final version could have the cleanest link. Well, I don't expect it to happen, but it would be nice to have more control over lists after they are made public, at least if only you have or no one has voted on them. :c

Sorry, again...
