Submitting Documentaries

Postby cluster on Tue Sep 08, 2009 10:45 pm

Hi, i tried to submit a documentary some time ago but was denied because there was no documentaries accepted i was said. Now i see that there is a documentary section that seems new, so is it ok to try to submit missing ones?

(maybe not necessary to state it but I'm thinking of:
-Journey of Man
-Shape of Life
-Ross Kemp in Afghanistan
-World at War
and maybe a few others)

And how do i submit a new movie? sometime i've found a link when searching a missing movie, but sometime this link isn't there. What is the proper way to do it?

thanks

Some of the documentaries you mentioned are television series and the moderators and admins have stated a few times they don't plan to make exceptions for these.

If imdb says (TV) i.e. TV movie, or TV mini-series it's fine, if it says TV series it isn't. Some things were listed as miniseries when they were added but imdb has since changed them to TV series. Because imdb's rules for what constitutes a miniseries are retarded and vague.

Is wikipedia the source for the clear definition of mini-serie? i guess it is correct as definitions go.

For example, what is the practical, clear-cut difference between all those TV-series, only one of which is available here (all where intended to be, and were broadcast on TV channels) which would make "The civil War" acceptable and the others not:

[Sky One] Ross Kemp in Afghanistan (5 episodes) - imdb: (TV series)
[PBS] The Shape of Life (8 episodes) imdb: (TV series)
[PBS] The Civil War (9 episodes) imdb: (TV series) < available here on Criticker
[PBS] Evolution (7 episodes) imdb: (TV series)
[BBC] World At War (26 episodes) imdb : (TV series)

is popularity a factor?

As the wiki article alludes to miniseries is an inherently vague term, but yes I personally think that definition is more in the spirit of how the term is used than imdb's: http://www.imdb.com/help/search?domain= ... titletypes

As for why "The Civil War" is acceptable it's because IMDB used to list it as a mini-series, so I guess when it was added the moderators approved it on that basis. If it were submitted now I guess it would not be accepted. The same is true for a few others.

Thanks for the clarification. Then i'll remove it from my list. I would feel bad for all the other excellent TV documentaries if i can only rate this one, however brilliant it is.

Yeah it sucks because PBS has so many "TV Series" that are just a shit load of feature length documentaries. I've seen a few American Experience documentaries and they're so damn good, but you have to draw the line somewhere on these things I guess.

Indeed, i'm glad i learned enough English to see all that PBS stuff. Anyway i guess that those limitations are a reasonable choice for this site. It's not as encyclopedic as IMDB but on the other hand I'm amazed how well thought out is the user rankings tier system (just needs more users!,) so I won't complain.
