- How did A Serious Man not make the comedy category...?

I really want Dexter to beat Mad Men. I love both, but Dexter season 4 was godly. I really want to see Up in the Air and Nine. How Bullock got nominated for something like The Proposal, not to be sexist is pathetic.

Mad Men is superior to Dexter. Mad Men is the new Sopranos for me, every time that show ends it's like I need more of it. The thing with Dexter is that you know he's never gonna die or get caught, so there's never any real suspense. Dexter is just too poorly written at times for me. Now that I think about it, most shows on Showtime don't have very good writing. But despite that I agree, season 4 was pretty awesome. I have no idea how Trinity knew where Dexter lived though (bad writing).

Probably figured it out from Debras. And while he didn't die, it still had a very ballsy ending. I love everything about Dexter myself, so I may be blinded. I really just wnat Dexter to win one year then Mad Men can go on winning every other.

yeah Dexter's ending was really strong, season 5 will be pretty different i think. but i agree there's been a lot of bad writing, especially in the first half of this season - that whole bit about dex being tired  yawnnn

lithgow ruled tho, probably the best dex villain

I love how some of the nominations are for films that haven't even come out yet. (So the public won't know that they actually suck, and there's extra advertisement for them to see it)

Anyways, the entire list is pretty ridiculous, but the barrel of nominations for Invictus (just as formulaic and exactly the same as "The Blind Side", except with marginally better acting, and rugby instead of football), as well as Precious (especially the supporting actress nomination for Phat Girlz Monique) are particularly hilarious.

They somehow managed to pick lots of movies that not only sucked, but were also failures at the box office, too. A winning combination.

Small wonder fewer people care about these shows anymore.

"___'s" obscure suggestions notwithstanding, you can start with my top 5 in order of must seeing:

(500) Days of Summer (DVD/Blu-Ray on 12-22)
Up in the Air
Up
Pirate Radio
Inglourious Basterds

As for the GG's, I only have a couple of real disagreements. A smaller one is that A Christmas Carol should absolutely have been nominated for best animated feature, since it's certainly better than The Fantastic Mr. Fox and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. But since Up is the biggest lock on the whole list, it's pretty much a moot point.

A Christmas Carol raises another question; with live capture animation coming of age with its incredible ability to capture facial expressions and other nuances, shouldn't such performances be qualified in the best actor/actress categories?

I think the worst omission is The Princess and the Frog in the best score category, and several songs should have qualified for best original song nominations as well, especially considering the crap that's there. I wonder if the judges even saw it.

I agree with Meryl Streep's nomination for Julie & Julia (and she should have won the Oscar last year for Doubt), but being miscast in the romantic role in It's Complicated looks very much the same as her being completely miscast for Momma Mia. At least there she had Pierce Brosnan's singing to take the pressure off. Somebody needs to have a talk with her about growing old gracefully.

I was happy with most of the golden globe nominations. I havent seen a lot of the films yet, but I am hoping to see some of them before the awards take place.
