To be honest, I was looking forward to this a lot more BEFORE I saw the slightly corny trailer, since I'm a big sci-fi fan and I loved Moon. But I'll withhold judgement until it's actually released.

I was gonna say the exact same thing. I hope this is one of those good movies with crappy trailers.

Loved Moon, but I'm a bit wary based on the idea and the trailer. I'm going in with cautious optimism but I'm more looking forward to Mute. It's not so much 'sci-fi' as just a story that takes place in a sci-fi world. I haven't heard much, but I've been told that it exists in the same world as Moon, although it doesn't relate to Moon at all. Something about a mute being kidnapped by the mafia and his sisters trying to get him back.

Duncan Jones seems to be more about the story than the sci-fi, which usually has good results. This has a '13 Monkeys' resemblance when Moon had a '2001' resemblance. I thought Moon would just be 2001, but I was pleasantly surprised so I'm hoping Jones does that to me again with 'Source Code'. Either way, it looks well acted and it'll have a great score so it can't be that bad.

Wow, I completely avoided the trailer because ... well, because I'm prejudice like that. Then I found out it was Duncan Jones' second film, so I immediately had a look at the trailer and I'm pretty impressed, mainly by the rather cool storyline. It's definitely got kind of a Nolan feel to it. I'm looking forward to it now, for sure.

But what's with the comparisons of Moon to 2001? They're not alike at all.

There were deliberate references/homages to 2001 in Moon, including GERTY and the silent, isolated atmosphere.

This looks like a sci-fi "Groundhog Day" remake.

Actually, Groundhog Day was already based on a sci-fi short called 12:01 PM. It has a scientific basis and is far more depressing.

Along with the homages throughout that were mentioned, the trailer was also very '2001'. I saw the trailer and was thinking 'well, it looks pretty good but it looks like it's just going to be the HAL plotline from 2001'. It wasn't, it was a very unique movie in its own right. The atmosphere was certainly inspired by the likes of 2001, Silent Running, etc. After seeing it, I would say Silent Running and Blade Runner influenced it more than 2001, but going I definitely thought it was going to be 2001.

Jones seems to respect cinema. I expect inspiration from Le Jetee, but I also expect it to be its own movie.
