Wait, are you serious, or making a joke just to see if readers are paying attention?
Yes I'm serious. I think it looks entertaining, and appears to have a rather good cast. Faverau did well with the two Iron Man movies, and I'm willing to give him a third chance with his latest movie. I don't expect greatness, just a solid movie with lots of explosions and Craig being his action movie star self. If you want to see say, Captain America, which actually looks mediocre at best, and then mock someone for wanting to see Cowboys & Aliens, well I can't really help you.

Fuck no I don't want to see "Captain America"...whatever gave you that impression? But since you bring it up, what's the difference between that picture and "Cowboys and Aliens" and the Iron Man films you're apparently a fan of? Aren't they all essentially the same overly serious, blockbuster, comic book/superhero shit, just flavored a little differently?

I thought the one trailer for C&A I've seen (think it was on during the Super Bowl, probably what you'd call a "teaser") was fairly great. I was looking forward to it before, and even more after I saw that trailer.

I mean, it's Indiana Jones and James Bond and aliens in a western setting. There is basically no way I'm not going to look forward to it. It may suck, but as I've yet to see it I'm yet to know whether or not it sucks so I will continue to look forward to it. I guess I've not yet become such a cynical bastard.

Iron Man 1 & 2 are perfectly entertaining, if not outstanding, as far as I can see. Favreau is ok, so yeah.

Wherever did you get the impression that Cowboys & Aliens is overly serious? For one thing, Favreau couldn't make a serious movie if he tried. For another thing, it's a movie about cowboys fighting aliens and it's clearly going to be ironic as hell. If that's not your thing, fine, but calling this overly serious... what the fuck man.

Though to be fair, I just watched the actual "trailer" for Cowboys & Aliens and it was pretty much horrible, then again if you think trailers actually represent the finished product you clearly don't live in the same world as the rest of us. Anyway, judging from that trailer it may seem overly serious but judging from the teaser I saw and every other piece of evidence at hand it's not going to be so ease up a bit. The Iron Man films certainly aren't that so you're not really making too much sense either way.

Also, speaking of silly blockbusters, oddly looking forward to Thor which is out here in 2 days. I wasn't when I first heard of it, even less when I saw the fairly horrible trailer, but apparently it holds 93% at rottentomatoes, a site which I generally pay little notice to but I can't help but recognize that that's fairly high, even if it only has some 25+ reviews. Also, it has Stellan Skarsgård.

Of course it's my "thing", considering the amount of shlock on my movie list. Hence the disappointment. But yes, the trailer is played dead fucking serious, and if you disagree, you're the one living in a different world than the rest of us.

Hell, even you admit this later on in your post, after watching the trailer.

Trailers aren't the be all end all, but it gives the viewer the best impression of the film before actually watching it.

Also, considering the track record of comic book adaptations, the odds of it being played up for laughs are very low.

Don't pay attention to those worthless fucking scumbag shills calling themselves "critics". Any big studio blockbuster is going to have wildly inflated scores.

You know what the RT score for "Revenge of the Sith" was when it first came out? Something like 95%. It was also total shit.

A valid point but still not entirely true. I'm not very familiar with RT (frankly, I kinda despite the way RT generates scores) but I don't see anything else even approaching 93% of things that relatively recently came out, except Source Code at 90%.

Revenge of the Sith is pretty terrible but compared to the two other prequel films I could easily see how someone might misinterpret it as a good film. :P

The Iron Man movies are rather well made, entertaining action films. I never said you wanted to see Captain America at all-I think you missed my point completely. Why do you hate comic book movies? Especially since there are actually good ones that have been made? If you lump every blockbuster into the Michael Bay category, then yes I can see why you would hate them, I guess. But I think that's a rather silly thing to do.

I think it was way worse than either of the first two prequel films, and it's one of my T1 films here, as well as my most disappointing theater experience ever.

Still, the point remains; any wannabe big studio blockbuster will influence the scumbag shill "critics" to overrate the hell out of it. Don't be fooled, unless you want an awful time at the movies, like I suffered through back in 2005...

MadMan wrote:Why do you hate comic book movies?

I don't. There are some I like very much; the Tim Burton Batman films, "The Dark Knight", "Red", and "300".

But the overwhelming majority of them are worthless shit, made in the same boring, lifeless, overly serious manner.

From what I can gather, there is some evidence that Paul Thomas Anderson's next movie is again going to be something currently going under the working title, The Master. If this turns out to be the case, then it certainly belongs on my list of anticipated movies, although the release date would be anyone's guess.
