meh, the trailer is ok but I don't really like how it's edited.

also, worst Led Zeppelin cover EVER. Seriously. That was bad.

I'm reserving judgement on the film until I can actually see it, but I'm skeptical that anyone can improve on Noomi Rapace's performance. We shall see.

I saw the leaked redband trailer a few days ago and was similarly impressed. I haven't read the books but have seen the first two films and thought they felt average/television quality apart from Salander. Reminded me of the Wallander series, from what I saw of that. So an English language remake didn't seem interesting.

However with Fincher directing and Reznor scoring this looks sweet.
Apparently the ending has been changed by Fincher so there is a definitive reason to see it if you've seen the original.
If the girl who plays Salander can do better than Noomi Rapace then the film will be incredible.

Two sticking points are that they're going to be speaking English with Swedish accents and I think Craig's character is supposed to be this doughy deskbound middle-aged guy. Who happens to get laid constantly.

Eh. I'm not sure if I'll be interested in seeing an English version. If I hadn't already watch this version and new the ending, then maybe I would have been interested. I've watched this one, The Girl who Played with Fire and now on the third one: The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest , which I haven't finished yet. So, I wouldn't want to see a repeat. I like what's already done and the story.

To be fair, it's like that in the books too. I think it was a little bit of wish fulfillment from author Stieg Larsson, who was himself a doughy, deskbound middle-aged guy.

:P

Just saw the trailer in the theater and was pretty impressed even though I didn't know what it was until the end. I saw the three originals and enjoyed them but this looks better to me. I was never that impressed with Naomi's (necessarily) one dimensional performance, which I got the feeling was just an extension of her one dimensional goth personna. Between that, the subtitles and the European Noir, I'm looking forward to it.

And I liked the Led track, which means they probably won't use it.

I didn't like the original mainly to do with directorial choices but Fincher is at the helm here and a nice trailer to boot has piked my interest.

Mara was good in TSN so she should be a good replacement.

I won't be watching this simply because of how fucking stupid re-making a film from 2-3 years ago is, especially when said film played in the goddamn US. (And even make a respectable $6 million at the box office plus a significant take in the ancillary market with rentals and DVDs)

Pretty soon, once a film makes money in Hollywood, there will be a planned sequel AND a planned remake instantly.

it isn't really a "remake" though, but rather another version of the same novel

And in Swedish subtitles in limited release. It's different than Kung Fu Panda 2, or the Hangover pt.2, X-Men whatever, and Pirates of the Caribbean fucking four.

And another thing, sequels are only partially Hollywood's cowardice or worship of the dollar, it's more our fault for putting up with so much of it.

If you wanna talk dumb remake of a recent masterpiece, just point to Undisputed. Prob'ly one of the best examples possible. 8-)

(Board went nuts. Seems like there's a dupe and nothing I can do about it. I edit one and both get edited).
