What percentage of your ranked films are from your country

Postby Jehan on Sat Mar 10, 2012 3:58 pm

Of course, this thread basically excludes all Americans :D Or, you know, any coproductions, which are not in your language, set somewhere else, etc.

For me it's 86 Bulgarian movies, which is 4.6% of all my rankings.

3,9%

I don't like Polish cinema in general. Of course we had some great arthouse directors in 60s & 70s but that's it. Hardly any good horrors & sci-fi. There also hasn't been a single ( :!: ) professional gore or exploitation film ever made here. And new Polish cinema sucks really bad. I would say that every year there's about one film worth watching made in Poland nowadays.

According to Criticker I've seen 82 Canadian films. Which is 3.3% of all my ranked films.

Of course, being so close geographically to the USA and everything being relatively less expensive here, there are a TON of "American" productions that actually use Canadian locations to film. I'm sure I've seen way more than 82 movies that were shot here.

for the record, I've seen zero Bulgarian movies, and 5 Polish ones (actually, one of the movies listed as Polish is Fantom Kiler, which was actually made by British guys who just pretended to be distributors for a fictional Polish filmmaker, so that one probably shouldn't count).

I've ranked 45 Dutch movies on Criticker (2%). I have seen more Dutch movies, but didn't bother to rank them. In general I dislike Dutch movies, they are/were always about WW2, or people just talking. The last couple of years they are getting better though. The funny thing is, in almost each Dutch film there will be always a scene where one (or all) of the main characters do a nude scene. I't almost like it's mandatory. Very weird.

I've seen one Bulgarian movie: Alien Hunter (2003). I can't even remember what is what about (my review: What did I watch? I have no clue. Junk)

Edit:
Other countries:
1 from Bulgaria
4 from Poland
82 from Canada
1 from Turkey

Well, that's only shot here. A lot of American (mostly B) movies are shot in Bulgaria, because it's cheaper, we've got the required studio buildings and there's almost all of the different locations - sea, mountains, rivers, valleys, etc. The newest movies "from Bulgaria" are Conan the Barbarian and The Expendables 2

I have seen tons and tons of movies from my country, however I don't rank them on criticker. Actually, I doubt if even 20% of those movies are in the criticker database.

UK - 138 of 496 (27.8%)

Although a lot of those are clearly co-produced with companies from other countries. Gangs of New York... UK... really?

52.74%, from India.

I don't live in India anymore, but that's my country of origin.

Interesting - 1770 films in the database are from India. I have seen 1069 of them. 961 out of the total 1770 were added by me to the Criticker database.
