Please, please don't turn out to be another Avatar or Terminator Salvation or AVP film. Give me a reason to like 3D.

Wait what? Prometheus will be in 3D? Fuck! I hope it will have also some 2D screenings, otherwise I'll have to wait for DVD. :/

Does edkrak just dislike 3D or is there a good reason? A buddy of mine has a glass eye, so the whole 3D thing is totally lost on him.

The Prometheus trailer looks pretty good, I have to say. Reminded me in a good way of the Mass Effect video games (Space marines trying to piece together the past from the remnants of an ancient alien civilization). Though I've been largely unimpressed by Ridley Scott's output for more than 20 years now, I think this one has some real potential. Great cast, too.

I'll be so pissed if this is bad. The trailer gives me hope though.

1. I don't really know if it's something to do with my eyes, or it's just shitty technology, but all 3d films seem to be not very sharp during action sequences, fast movements etc. :!:
2. I don't like wearing 3d glasses.
3. I don't like paying more for being forced to wear them.

Fair enough.

Most movies that have been released in 3D recently also had some 2D screenings, though I suppose it depends on the demand in your area.

Indeed, this is the main reason I avoid 3d films whenever possible as well. I don't think there's a single film that I get 25% more enjoyment from in 3d, so to me it doesn't make sense to pay 25% more to see it in 3d.

Uh oh.

Ridley Scott interview where he admits that he toned down the violence and "stressful ideas" in Prometheus to get a PG-13 rating.

He calls it "kinda R". :|

I guess I just have to accept that Hollywood doesn't give a fuck about me any more because I'm over 30. Remember when they used to make movies for adults, too?

1. As an adult, it doesn't bother me they don't use uber-graphic violence. I prefer the emphasis on art and inherent substance in a movie.

2. This isn't being driven by Hollywood, but rather the audience. One solution you could advocate, and I'd support you, is, rather than screen 2DS & 3D versions, show PG-13 and R rated versions. 8-)

Ah, sheer marketing genius. You'd have thought they'd have thought of this long ago. They do it with DVDs sometimes. The versions wouldn't be that different, and as in this case, they've already got both versions going through the ratings process--AND it would help the bottom line. How many great movies have suffered at the box office due to the limits on an R rated audience.

"Happy 17th Birthday (Jack/Jill)! Here, these are the R rated versions of movies we wouldn't let you see until today."

"It's OK Dad, I copied most of them to my computer. But thanks for the gesture."Image

that's actually a fantastic idea, I'm shocked no one has tried that already (to the best of my knowledge anyways).

If they released PG-13 and R rated versions of the same film to cinemas simultaneously, people who want to see the blood and guts/more mature version can do so without having to be surrounded by mewling teenagers, and the studios don't miss out on that sweet, sweet teenage dollar. I'm sure there's some obvious reason they don't do this that I'm just completely missing.

And for the record, I do appreciate artistry and substance (in the right sort of film)...but a gritty story about space marines fighting aliens should be vulgar and bloody IMO.
