Ridley Scott interview where he admits that he toned down the violence and "stressful ideas" in Prometheus to get a PG-13 rating.
He calls it "kinda R".
I guess I just have to accept that Hollywood doesn't give a fuck about me any more because I'm over 30. Remember when they used to make movies for adults, too?
1. As an adult, it doesn't bother me they don't use uber-graphic violence. I prefer the emphasis on art and inherent substance in a movie.
2. This isn't being driven by Hollywood, but rather the audience. One solution you could advocate, and I'd support you, is, rather than screen 2DS & 3D versions, show PG-13 and R rated versions.
Ah, sheer marketing genius. You'd have thought they'd have thought of this long ago. They do it with DVDs sometimes. The versions wouldn't be that different, and as in this case, they've already got both versions going through the ratings process--AND it would help the bottom line. How many great movies have suffered at the box office due to the limits on an R rated audience.
"Happy 17th Birthday (Jack/Jill
)! Here, these are the R rated versions of movies we wouldn't let you see until today."
"It's OK Dad, I copied most of them to my computer. But thanks for the gesture."
