How do you obtain the films you watch?

Postby stuie299 on Thu Aug 16, 2012 7:08 pm

My guess would be that a small portion of criticker users have Netflix (like myself), a small portion buy or occasionally buy Blu-rays/DVDs, Some rent stuff from the library, but my guess is that the majority of people illegally download their content. Would this be a fare assessment?

The majority of the movies I watch are on DVDs that I typically buy on eBay. I tend to watch them, then sell them on, and use the money from sales to buy more, and so on and so on. Otherwise, I'll occasionally watch movies on the television and on rare occasions see them online.

My guess would be that many people do a combination of the above.

Till a couple of years ago, we used to download the not-so-easy-to-obtain content and then visit the theaters 1-2 times a week. After we had our baby, we had to give up going to the movies. So downloading mostly.

You missed mentioning one other channel which I use - public libraries. Most public libraries have a DVD section. Some elaborate and pretty current, some small and obsolete. You can check out 5-10 DVDs at a time in most places.

No. A fare assessment would be something like: "$1.25 to ride the subway? That's an outrageous price!"

Serious answer? all of the above.

I started watching older films (released prior to the 60's) through the Netflix mail DVD things. When they went to two seperate plans, though, we dropped that because my wife is constantly streaming Netflix on her laptop while she works (she's a software engineer).

Nowadays I watch probably two films a month in theaters, rent a Redbox a few times every month, and then record the odd movie via DVR so I can watch later. Recently watched In the Heat of the Night for the first time because I could catch it on tv. Not the greatest option, but... *shrug*

As for those who download films, what website do you use?
